    Dress Code Information:

JOES has a dress code! Students are required to wear their uniforms each day.

Free Dress on the last Friday of each month are days when students are permitted to wear non-uniform clothing (please, no profanity or offensive images).  Families will be notified about other announced free dress days and other special events (spirit days) during the year through the Blue Parents Folder and weekly newsletter via email.

Navy blue pants (no jeans), shorts, skirts or rompers. Navy blue, light blue or white polo shirt or blouse, or school logo t-shirt.

School uniforms can be purchased at retail stores such as Target, J.C. Penney’s, Old Navy, Gap, Land's End or any other store that sells standard uniforms. All of these retailers (and more) are on the Benefit app, where you can purchase items through the app on your phone and raise money for the school at the same time!

French Toast online provides best-in-class uniforms made with quality and comfort at a great value - durable fabrics, great fit, functional details and a variety of styles.  By using our school code at checkout (QS46WU8), you'll earn the school up to 5% back on your uniform purchases!

    AFTER School Programs:

The Jose Ortega Elementary School Umoja After School Program (UASP) is a collaborative program offered by Jose Ortega Elementary School, the San Francisco Unified School District's ExCEL program and the Stonestown Family YMCA. The on-site program, for grades K-5, provides students with a variety of fun activities, homework help, sports, science experiments, field trips, and healthy snacks under the care of professionally trained YMCA employees from 1:50pm to 6pm Monday through Friday. Roughly half the school population participates in the Umoja After School Program.

The Umoja After School Program offers two registration options for families. The fee-based option ranges from $251-$493 a month, depending upon the number of days your child is enrolled. Financial Assistance is available for families who demonstrate financial need. The Umoja After School Program also offers ExCEL subsidized slots with an application fee of $75 or $550 for the year. These slots are reserved for students who commit to attend the program 5 days a week, whose families have financial need, students who receive free/reduced lunch, and are identified by teachers as students who would benefit from academic support after school.

For further information about the Umoja After School Program, contact the Jose Ortega After School Site Coordinator Matthew Calderon at MCalderon@ymcasf.org or (415)283-6999.
