October is Stand Up to Bullying month at Jose Ortega.

This is a great time of year to work with our students on the positive ways we make and maintain friends and engage in respectful communication with peers. It is a chance for us to be explicit in teaching the language that will empower our students to name how they are feeling when one is not being kind to them and also, the language they can use to advocate for themselves with a peer or an adult.

Teachers will be showing videos and teaching lessons in class this month about recognizing, reporting, and refusing bullying. The following link is a great starting point in having a conversation with your student about bullying.

There are countless ways volunteers can get involved. Whether you can help during school hours or in the evenings, your time and talent are what make our school great!

Morning Traffic Tips

As we start the day bright and early, ready for the morning bell at 7:50am, please utilize our Morning Stop-Drop-and-Go program coordinated by many Parent Volunteers. Please be mindful of their direction as you drive up to the school to safely drop your child off in the morning.

Traffic in the morning is one-way to the west on Sargent in front of the school. Make sure your students have their bags ready and their shoes tied so they can be assisted out of the car by our volunteers.

If you would like to walk in with your child, please find safe and legal parking in the neighborhood around the school.
