Umoja Day is a celebration of the diversity that defines our community. Umoja means “unity” in Swahili. The performances celebrate the cultures represented at Jose Ortega and acknowledges the unique contributions they make to our community.

Students are encouraged to wear traditional dress or colors of the rainbow on this day!
Come at 8:30 AM on Friday 5/22 to attend the performances at the school yard!
Contribute a prepared dish of special food from their family, which should be fully cooked and ready to serve. Kindly label any plates, bowls, or utensils that are sent to school.
Families are encouraged to participate and enjoy Umoja Feasts held in each classroom where students can share their cultural foods and experience unity. You should have received a slip which indicates the time of your class feast. If not, please contact your teacher.
