This is your chance to celebrate diversity and inclusion, have fun with your friends, get fit, and help keep JOES great! 

WHEN & WHERE:  At school from 8am-11am on Friday, October 19, 2018 – Students will walk, jog, or run with their classmates during their timeslot. Families and friends are encouraged to come and volunteer and cheer them on!   Sign up to Volunteer here!     


7:30 – 8:10 AM Setup – putting out cones, getting table, music…

8:10am – 8:40am:  Pre K, K & 1st

9:00am – 9:30am:  2nd and 3rd

9:50am – 10:20am:  4th and 4/5 split

10:40am – 11:10am:  5th

WHY A WALK-A-THON?:  It's a healthy and fun way to celebrate and reinforce diversity and inclusion and to bridge the funding gap between the programs that Jose Ortega offers and the funds provided by the state. These funds directly support our students by providing science and art programs, teacher support, recess monitors, student enrichment activities, school greening and more.

Our goal this year is to raise $40,000! That’s a BIG number but with your support we can do it! If each student is able to meet the challenge of raising $100 in donations, we will have achieved our fundraising goal! That's as easy as getting 5 people to donate $20 each.  And DOUBLE your donation with Corporate Matching (see the Education Fund page for more info)!


We're using an awesome web based fundraising system that makes it much easier for you to request pledges from your family and friends, and for them to make secure credit card donations online (or by check). It's fun, easy, and people who use it typically raise twice as much as those who don't!

Please register to support our awesome programs:

The system will email and/or text pledge requests directly to your family and friends as well as providing a link to share on social media.  The site takes care of the rest by collecting payment, sending receipts and thank you's to donors and following up on the per lap pledges. Then you can sit back, relax and watch the donations roll in!  

You get notified each time a pledge is made, and you can track your pledge progress online. It also allows your family and friends to post encouraging messages that you can share with your child(ren).  For families with multiple children, only one registration is needed and donations will be split evenly among your children.

PRIZES: BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND, students who reach their goal of $100 will be entered for a chance to throw a pie in Principle Ben's face the following Friday on October 26th at morning Sing-along (along with other great prizes)!  NEW THIS YEAR, each class will also have its own goal and class prize list (see below for your class) and get rewarded with fun things like a dance party, extra recess, stuffed animal day, etc.!  In addition, if the school meets the school-wide fundraising goal, Principle Ben and Mr. Turner will compete in a tricycle race!
