JOES Weekly Newsletter -5/11

Greetings Families,

I would like to begin by thanking each of you who supported the various ways we appreciated our educators at Jose Ortega during Educator Appreciation Week. We are truly blessed with such an amazing team of educators that go above and beyond for all our students each and everyday.

I would also like to extend thoughts of gratitude to all of our moms in the Ortega community. You all have done such an amazing job ensuring that your children continue to be thoughtful and caring members of our community. Hats off to you!

Summer break is quickly approaching. We have just completed our first week of summative assessments and the kids did a great job. We will continue with our assessments in math next week. Thank you for ensuring that your child is at school everyday by 7:45am. The students have done so much hard work this year expanding their learning. I am really excited to see this reflected in their assessment results.

Please continue to look through our Wednesday packets, as many teachers will be sharing information on end of the year field trips, activities and Summer learning opportunities.

I am looking forward to see as many families as possible at our end of the year PTA meeting held next Thursday, May 17 at 6pm. We will be finalizing our budget and introducing newly elected members of the PTA executive committee.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Read-a-Thon Results

We exceeded our school-wide goal of 170,000 minutes with over 200,000 minutes before even factoring the writing bonus (of 48k). What a great effort by students who will all get popsicles. Congrats to the 2nd graders, who will also get a party, for the most minutes read!

Individual awards were distributed last Friday. We will be providing a list of per student minutes to the teachers, but if you would like to know your student's summary, please email Cameron directly.
