Events are always fun at Jose Ortega!
We have a number of fun events throughout the year that are great community builders. These include: Walk-a-thon, Halloween Parade, Fall Carnival, Book Fair, Winter Program, Chinese New Year’s Dinner, Chinese New Year Parade, Engineering Night, Spring Auction, Read-a-thon, School Greening days.
Walk-A-Thon - Oct. 19, 8am-11:30am
We All Belong. Let's Walk On.
This is a walk-a-thon fundraiser where students will walk, jog, or run with their classmates during their timeslot. Families and friends are encouraged to come and volunteer and cheer them on!
Greening work partIES
Come flex your green thumbs for JOES and beautify our schoolyard at the greening work party. Lunch provided.
Bring the whole family, this is a great community event! Even if you can make it for just an hour-every little bit helps!
Halloween Parade - Oct. 31
On Halloween, students and staff, and quite a few parents, put on costumes and have a parade. DO NOT send students to school in costume. They will be given time at lunch to change into it. We will all gather on the main yard at 12:45pm and then begin our parade around the yard and off campus for a lap up and down Sargent Street. Please do not allow students to bring any liquid element of their costume or items that may be seen as a weapon. Please also avoid scary costumes.
If you choose to send treats to school for your child to share with their class, please make them healthy treats. Here is a wonderful resource on healthy Halloween treats.
This is a wonderful event for families to come together and enjoy an afternoon playing games, eating good food, enjoying entertainment and meeting new friends.
Book Fair - Nov. 26-30
The Scholastic Book Fair is one of our students' favorite school events and we can't pull it off without the help of parent volunteers! There is a huge amount of opportunity to help with this week long event. Lend a hand in any way you can - during the book fair, class preview days, setting up, or breaking down. It's super fun and don't forget it helps foster the love of reading for our kids while earning scholastic dollars for the school too! We hold an annual auction to fund-raise for our students. Our auction has 2 elements: an ONLINE AUCTION from March 8-13, followed by the AUCTION EVENT on March 16, where you can bid on items donated from the community and are sold to the highest bidder. You can participate in both or either one to support our school.
The AUCTION EVENT on March 16, 2019 is an adults-only event with amazing food and drinks with a live and silent auction. We need lots of help with procuring donations from the community. It’s easy and can be done on your own time. Please email email@example.com if interested in helping out with procurement, or any part of the auction!
The PTA invites each and every one of you to attend our yearly events, which help build and strengthen our school community at JOES.
